The Heart of Amity

Downtown Amity has long served as the heart of the community, bringing together local businesses, residents, and visitors along the town’s historic streets. The aerial photograph shown here, taken in 1936, offers a remarkable view of Amity as it appeared nearly a century ago, revealing the streets, buildings, and surrounding agricultural landscape that shaped the town.

While Amity has changed over the generations, downtown remains an important center of community life and a connection between the town’s past and present.

The original City Hall, seen here in 1960, no longer stands. The current City Hall and Community Center once housed the Fire Department.

Built by the Masons in 1905, this historic brick building has served Amity for more than a century as a lodge, commercial space, and home. After purchasing the aging building in 2013, Barb Bond and Rob Kistler carefully restored it, preserving its historic character while adapting it for modern use. Today, it is home to Amity Flats and remains a landmark in the heart of downtown Amity.
